Acoustic
Timbers
For musical
instruments, etc.... xylophones, guitars, violins, flutes and
most popular musical instruments as we know today traditionally
had their timbers sourced in Europe. Today we have instrument
makers keen to try local timbers to satisfy their needs of decoration,
beauty, acoustic and structural properties.
Geography
and genetics both influence the makeup of timber whether it be
density, grain
complexity, color or description of tonal qualities, i.e. sharpness,
mellowness, resonance. Fiddle back, quilting, Birdseye are sought
after also for both decoration and tonal qualities.
Australian
guitar makers Gerrard Gillet of Sydney & Bill Heringe of
Ballina have both shown a keen interest in experimenting with
Australian timbers.
